This tarot card contains the archetype of sacrifice and even the old book gets this right. If you have a look at the man hanging upside down on the tree you can tell, somebody has just made a very big sacrifice.

And what kind of sacrifice?

Well, in the old book the sacrifice that you make is whatever is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of The System.

There are the sacrifices you make for your boss.

There are the sacrifices you make for the Brotherhoods.

There are the sacrifices that religion asks you make.

There’s the sacrifice you (and your family) make if you go to war.

There’s the sacrifice you make when you work in a sweatshop.

There’s the sacrifice that comes from poverty.

It doesn’t really matter.

The System takes something from everybody and as long as you are plugged into some little niche, your life blood is being drained and you are part of the necessary (you are told) sacrifice.
